Cleaning Services Award 2020 (MA000022)

Disclaimer: This article is Urhere's plain-language interpretation of how this award is applied in the urhere platform. It is provided as general information only and is not legal advice. Award entitlements can change and can depend on your specific circumstances. You should refer to the current award on the Fair Work Ombudsman website and seek your own professional or legal advice before relying on it.

The Cleaning Services Award covers employers and employees in the contract cleaning industry. In urhere it comes as nine ready-to-use pay templates — one for each combination of employment type (full-time, part-time, casual) and shift pattern (standard, early/late, and permanent-night). All levels (1–3) use the same template; only the base rate on the employee record changes per level.

How rates work in urhere: each employee has a base hourly rate that matches their classification level. The pay templates below apply penalties and overtime as a percentage of that base rate. Part-time and casual employees are entered with a loaded base rate (part-time includes a 15% loading; casual includes a 25% loading), and the percentages shown for those templates are applied to that loaded rate. Examples use a full-time base rate of $30.00/hour purely to illustrate the maths.

Which shift pattern? - Standard — the everyday cleaning shift. - Early / Late — a shift that starts before 6:00am or finishes after 6:00pm; the whole shift attracts a loading. - Permanent-Night — a non-rotating night shift finishing after midnight (up to 8:00am); the whole shift attracts a higher loading. Because these depend on how someone is rostered, urhere leaves the early/late and permanent-night variants as templates you assign, rather than switching them automatically.

Minimum shift length

Cleaning minimum engagements depend on the size of the site being cleaned, so urhere handles this through its pay-by-area feature rather than a fixed rule in these templates.

What's not included

  • Allowances (broken shift, cold/hot work, height, first-aid, leading-hand, meal), call-back minimums and junior (trolley collection) rates are handled separately.

Rates current as at 1 July 2026. Penalty and overtime percentages follow the Fair Work MA000022 pay guide.
